THE HAWICK TARTAN COMPANY
THE WARP THE WEFT THE WEAVE
“Let every man wear his (Hawick) tartan!”
- Sir Walter Scott -
There may not be a tartan designed specifically with you in mind, but with its origins firmly rooted in Border soil,
the Hawick Tartan has been designed to encompass all that represents the past and the present of this ancient Border town,
its men, women and children, and its long history of beautifully made textiles. This is a tartan for every Teri!
Originally launched in 1996, the Hawick Tartan was designed by Robin Deas. Now 21 years later, along with business partner James Sugden, Robin has re-launched this beautiful tartan for all to see, wear and enjoy.
Created to incorporate 7 colours, each of which depicts a piece of Hawicks historical or current day attributes, this fabric tells the proud story of the town and its people. These colours are Royal Blue & Gold from the 1514 flag; Field Green of Hawick Rugby Club; Navy & White for Hawick High School; Red to represent the bloody Battle of Flodden in 1513; and the Dark Green base of the Douglas Tartan to recognise the towns historical connection with the clan.
